Balboa Peninsula Free Trolley Begins
The Balboa Peninsula Free trolley began service this weekend and will continue every weekend this summer. The free trolley was started as a way to help alleviate parking and congestion issues on the Peninsula during the high summer season.
The Balboa Peninsula Free Trolley will cover a total of 19 stops starting from Hoag Hospital to the Balboa Pier and back. The city of Newport Beach has rented a total of 40 parking spots in the Hoag Hospital Parking lot, located at the Southwest corner of Coast Highway and Superior Avenue. Parking will be free for trolley riders.
Trolley service will run all summer long on Saturday and Sundays, from 10 AM to 9:30 PM. Trolleys will run every 15 minutes along the 19 stop route. The service will also be provided on the 4th of July which this year falls on a Tuesday.
The free Trolley service is being funded by a grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority to the City of Newport Beach. The $685,454 grant will be distributed over a seven year period, it is be funded by Measure M, Orange County's half cent sales tax for transportation projects.
