Lake Forest is a city located in South Orange County. It is a newer city but has a long history in Orange County. It was incorporated as Lake Forest in 1991. Prior to incorporation the area was known as El Toro, in fact El Toro High School is still the city's only high school. The city expanded in 2000 when both Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills were annexed into the city. The population is approximately 80,000.
Lake Forest stretches from the 5 Freeway all the way to the foothills of near Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. The city is primarily a collection of single family home neighborhoods developed in 1970-1980's. There are a limited number of condos in the city, the majority of the condos are located in the areas of Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills. There are also a limited number of new developments, the largest of which is Baker Ranch. Baker Ranch is master planned community located in northern portion of Lake Forest which will add approximately 2,300 homes when completed.
Foothill Ranch is a community located within Lake Forest, it located at the northern portion of the city. Foothill Ranch is located at the far end of the city and is backs to the Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. With this great location many of the homes offer excellent canyon and city lights views. Primarily a collection of single family homes built in the 1990's there are also a few popular condo developments. The most popular of the condos are Tuscany, Brittany and Meadowview.
Nearby Portola Hills offers a similar location and similar mix of homes and condos, two of the more popular developments are Bella Palermo and Canyon View.
Baker Ranch is a new master planned community located at the north portion of Lake Forest. The community will offer six distinct neighborhoods and at completion will bring approximately 2,300 new homes to the area. Baker Ranch will be designed to take advantage of the natural beauty of the area and the desire for the outdoors. There will be multiple parks and recreation fields including the massive 8 acre Baker Ranch Community park.
