A Few Facts About Newport Beach

When you buy Newport Beach real estate you are buying what many think Southern California real estate is all about. Newport Beach is actually a collection of communities which each offer their own unique charm.

Bordered on the west by nine miles of beaches, the city of Newport Beach captures the casual, yet exhilarating picture of the Southern Californian lifestyle. Newport Beach homes are pricey at an average of $1.3 million, but vacationing in Newport is one option that cannot be overlooked when visiting Orange County.

With its film and music festivals, upscale shopping mall, food and wine tastings, boat parades, spas, performing arts venues, museums, golf courses and excellent dining choices, this city is brimming with activities.

Newport Beach recently (2006) celebrated its 100th Anniversary with a year long celebration. Since its beginning Newport Beach has been a playground for the stars of Hollywood, it was even known as a "second Hollywood" with attractions that drew legends such as the late Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne. Today the attraction remains with many Hollywood stars maintaining homes in Newport Beach. Although Newport Beach recently lost one well known resident when Nichols Cage sold his Newport Beach Estate for a record $35 million.

Newport Beach emcompasses about 36 square miles with a 752-acre bay - the largest open water estuary in Southern California. And there about 76,700 residents who are proud to call this home.

The main attraction - the beach - draws in both sunbathers and surfers alike. Others bodyboard, sail, snorkel, kayak and even more along this little slice of the Pacific Coast. There are even various selections when it comes to which specific beach to visit. Crystal Cove, Big Corona, Little Corona, Newport Beach municipal beach, and the Balboa Peninsula all have a slightly different personality.

Balboa features its own acclaimed body-surfing spot "The Wedge:. Newport Beach municipal beach is the largest of the beaches with the most activity. Both in and out of the water, there's always an activity to engage in. Sidewalks skirting the beach-side houses are flocked with bike riders, runners, skateboarders, roller bladers and pedestrians. The sand volleyball courts are always packed with those just dabbling in the sport or actually competing in tournaments. There's also the usual assortment of surfers, body boarders and sunbathers.

As you can imagine there are many outdoor activities to enjoy in Newprt Beach , including Crystal Cove State Park which is ideal for sight seeing, as well as biking or running along the Pacific Ocean. . Another great outdoor enthuist spot is the Back Bay Ecological Preserve. Built-in bike paths give people the chance to walk or bike around and observe a wide assortment of wildlife and migrating birds. People also explore the Back Bay by kayak, canoe or car.

Fashion Island shopping mall calls to shopping addicts throughout all of Orange County. With its open-air shopping experience and Spanish-style architecture, this mall incorporates the advantages of the temperate Southern Californian atmosphere. There is a mix of bigger name department stores like Bloomingdale's with the more locally-based stores that make up the majority of eateries in the indoor food court. Fashion Island provides a unique shopping experience as you can gaze at storefronts while walking amongst fountains and palm trees.

In the month of April, the renowned Newport Beach Film Festival showcases more than 350 films from all around the globe, and brings diverse cultural points of view to Orange County. Eager film fans are even given the opportunity to meet some of the film makers. To stimulate the festival experience, Newport Beach hosts several premieres, galas and yacht parties.

Also in Newport Beach,   the local communities of the Balboa Island and Peninsula thrive. Although known for being the first to market the chocolate-covered banana, Balboa is worthy of recognition in many other areas.

Balboa is also aquatically famous for being the world's largest small-boat harbor with more than 9,000 sailboats, kayaks, motorboats and more. Balboa is also proud to host its annual Christmas Boat Parade, where boats are decorated in strings of lights and float through the docks. A Saturday afternoon may include a ferry ride to or from the Balboa Peninsula if you want to try alternative transportation. On the Peninsula you can enjoy more shops and eateries,or maybe spend the afternoon at the Fun Zone. There are many homes that are congregated on the island. Balboa has a small community feel with attractions that draw in tourists and locals alike.

On and off shore, Newport Beach accommodates a multitude of activities. Visitors and locals can indulge in the maritime lifestyle with the easily accessible beach shore. City residents have  definitly embraced their location and have created, for the most part, a welcoming ambience.
