The City of Fountain Valley, CA is a bedroom community located in Central Orange County. As of 2010 the population was 55,313. The city was incorporated in 1957. At the center of the city is Mile Square Park, a 640 acre park which includes two lakes, three 18 hole golf courses, a recreation center which includes tennis courts, basketball courts, racquet ball courts, and sports field, there is also a community center and senior center.
The city is served by the Huntington Beach Union High School District and the Garden Grove Unified High School district. The schools in the area include Fountain Valley High School, Valley Vista High School and Los Amigos High School. Fountain Valley is also home to Coastline Community College.
The city is bisected by the 405 freeway providing great access to the employment hubs of Los Angeles, Santa Ana and Irvine. While many residents commute to these employment hubs, there area many employers within the city limits. The city has a strong healthcare and technology base. Fountain Valley is home D-Link, Kingston Technologies and Hyundai Motor America. Some of the large employers in the city include Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Orange Coast Medical Center and Memorial Care Health Systems.
Being a bedroom community, Fountain Valley primarily offers a collection of single family home neighborhoods. Some of these neighborhoods are Parkside Estates, Fountain View, Westmont and Greenbrook. There are a limited numbers of condo developments in the city.
